Steps to Creating your Jumble Trail

  1. Give yourself 3 months to organise the trail
  2. Set up a Facebook group
  3. Set up a general Facebook page related to the broader subject (I set up a page called jumble trail events) I share other jumble trails on this page and it has a general audience of mainly people looking to buy.
  4. Post on your Facebook page every day about the importance of community, recycling, reusing. Share Google information about landfill and the environment.
  5. On YouTube there is a company called ‘jumble trail’ with a magpie emblem. They have made videos about other communities that have done jumble trails. Share these on your page.
  6. Write the rules of the trail – there are laws about blocking public pathways or shared pathways – I always let people know
  7. Advise people of personal safety whilst doing the jumble trail
  8. Make it clear that their yard sale is their responsibility
  9. Pin the above posts to announcements
  10. Share your main post to any Facebook group that will let you, related to your area or has the words car boot or reselling in it.
  11. Make posts about how many houses are taking part
  12. As people sign up make them share the post on their own Facebook page
  13. A few days before the event make a map on Google maps and publish this on the day
  14. Many buyers will not be local and finding houses and addresses, is the main reason buyers give up.
  15. On the first jumble trail I did I made my own posters and handed them out – this is a great way to meet jumble trailers and build confidence
  16. You must tell people to make their yard sale visible on the day with balloons and bunting.
  17. The best time to hold your first jumble trail is at the beginning of the summer season in June
  18. Sundays are better than Saturday’s
  19. Take the week before your jumble trail off.
